Say your X handle out loud and watch it die. "Follow me — it's at underscore real underscore name underscore..." A long handle can be hard to remember or type correctly after the conversation. The fix isn't saying it louder — it's removing the typing entirely: a tap card that opens your X profile on their phone, so they can review your profile and choose whether to follow.
Why verbal X follows fail
Every in-person follow pitch fights three things at once:
| Obstacle | What happens | Possible friction |
|---|---|---|
| Spelling | Your handle has underscores, numbers, or a creative spelling | The visitor may mistype the handle |
| Timing | "I'll look you up later" | The visitor may forget to look it up |
| Distraction | They open X, get pulled into the timeline | The visitor may get distracted |
| The tap | A compatible phone opens your profile link | Following remains the visitor’s choice |
Sharing the exact profile URL avoids asking someone to type your handle. Opening the profile does not guarantee a follow.
4 ways to share your X profile in person, compared
| Method | What happens | Where it breaks | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saying your handle | You spell it, they nod | Remembering and typing the handle may create friction | Free |
| Printed QR code (card, badge, sign) | They open camera, aim, scan | Needs a compatible phone camera or QR-scanning app, a readable code and a connection to open the page | Printing costs vary |
| X's in-app share / QR | If available in your app, you show your profile QR | Requires YOU to unlock your phone, open X, find the share screen — and them to scan your screen. Slower than it sounds | Free |
| Tap card with your X profile link | They tap a compatible NFC phone to open your X profile link | They can choose not to follow; device compatibility, connectivity and X sign-in may still affect the next step | $19 one-time, no subscription |
The in-person X follow ritual
- Point the card at the X profile URL you intend to keep. x.com/yourhandle. Changing your handle changes that address. The supplied URL is selected before production, so choose and test the profile link rather than a post or short-lived campaign URL.
- Tap at the peak of the conversation. Right after the thing they'd want to follow you for — the hot take, the story, the insight. "Tap this — it'll pull up my X." The follow rides the momentum of the moment.
- Let them decide whether to follow. Offer the profile link without pressure or a promised result. For a related networking problem, see the people who forget your name ten seconds later without it.
- Keep the profile useful. Make sure your recent posts help a visitor understand what you share. A card opens the page; it does not make someone stay or follow.
Honest alternatives
- X's profile QR: X documents a profile QR-sharing option (checked October 21, 2026). Check its availability in your app. A printed or phone-displayed QR can share a profile without buying an NFC card.
- Link-in-bio card: a tap card pointed at your link page works if your pitch is "everything I do" rather than "my X." But if the ask is X follows specifically, a direct profile link avoids an additional page without promising a higher follow rate. See the broader link-in-bio friction problem for why.
- Just be memorable: the highest-leverage move is still saying something worth following. The card does not replace a useful conversation or guarantee an audience. Founders and creators who already convert personal follows into business follows get the most from it.
- Conference badge QR: free and visible all day. Works as a passive channel; the tap card is the active one. Run both — they don't compete.
One caveat: the tap opens your profile — it doesn't make them follow. If your last post is from March, fix that first. The card removes the friction; your content still has to earn the follow. Pair it with a pinned post that shows a new visitor exactly why they should stay.

FAQ
Does the tap open the X app or the browser?
The card opens your profile URL. Whether it opens in an app or browser depends on the phone and its settings; X may require sign-in for some actions. Test the exact link on the devices you expect to use.
What if they don't have X installed?
They can try opening the profile in their browser; X may require sign-in to follow. A printed QR backup is included by default for a compatible phone camera or QR-scanning app.
Should I point the card at my X profile or my website?
Match the card to the ask. If you're at a conference pitching X follows, point it at X. If you're running a business counter, point it at your website or review page. One card, one job — that's why packs exist.
Can I reuse the same card for LinkedIn or Instagram too?
One card opens the URL you supply; choose and test it before production. Creators who work multiple rooms keep one card per platform — a matte 3-pack ($39) can provide a separate card for X, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Creators working podcast audiences or YouTube crowds do the same per-platform setup.
