An NFC card that saves your contact to their phone: Pocket Factory makes one card with your logo, pre-programmed with a link that opens your contact details, for a $19 one-time payment for one Matte card, no subscription. Here's exactly how it works, without the hype: the person taps the card, their phone opens your contact details, and they choose to save you. A phone that supports native NFC link reading does not need a special app to open the link; it may first ask them to open it, and the last step (tapping save) is theirs. Below is what we program, what iPhone and Android actually do, and when an editable digital card app is the better buy.

What Pocket Factory programs on a contact card
When you order, you pick Contact as the card's purpose on the product page. You then have two options:
- Type your details into the order form: first and last name, title, company, position, phone number, email, website, address, birthday, notes and an optional profile picture. Our order form notes that contact files are prepared separately before production, so you don't have to make a file yourself.
- Give us a link you already have: your existing contact page, or a hosted .vcf (vCard) file on your own site.
Either way, the card is pre-programmed with a URL before it ships: the link opens your contact details. As our product FAQ puts it, a tap opens your chosen destination and the phone may ask the person to open a link. We don't claim the card drops a contact straight into someone's address book with zero taps. That last step is up to their phone and their choice, which is also how the editable-profile brands describe it.
The card itself is PVC with an NTAG215 chip. No battery or charging is needed. Cards have a QR code on the back by default as a backup. The supplied URL is selected before production.
vCard file vs contact page vs digital card app: which should the tap open?
| Option | What the person sees | You can update it later? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| vCard (.vcf) file | Your name, number, email and photo as a contact, ready to save (behavior depends on phone and browser) | Only if it's a file you host and replace on your own site | People who want to offer a downloadable contact file |
| Contact page on your site | A simple page with tap-to-call, tap-to-email, your website and a 'download contact' button | Yes: you edit the page; the card's link stays the same | Small businesses that want to control their own contact page |
| Digital card app profile (Blinq, HiHello, Popl, Tap Tag) | Check the provider's hosted profile and save-contact options | Check editing options for the plan you choose | People comparing editable profiles, analytics or lead capture; verify support |
Our honest pick for most owners: a contact page on your own website, like yourbusiness.com/contact-card, with a 'Save contact' button that downloads a .vcf. You get the tidy save-to-contacts experience, it still works on phones that handle .vcf files awkwardly, and when your number changes you edit the page, not the card.
What happens on an iPhone
iPhone XS and later support background NFC tag reading while the phone is in use, subject to device conditions; a compatible web-link tag can show a notification the person taps to open (Apple: background tag reading). From there, what they see depends on what your link points to:
- A contact page opens in Safari like any website, and your phone number and email work as tap-to-call and tap-to-email links.
- A .vcf file: Apple's own guide documents importing a vCard by tapping a .vcf attachment in an email or message (Apple Support: Import contacts on iPhone). It doesn't document how Safari treats a .vcf opened from a web link, and in practice that varies by iOS version. Test it on your own iPhone before you hand out cards, and keep your details visible as text on the page in case the save prompt doesn't appear.
On iPhone 7–X, open the NFC reader from Control Center. If NFC cannot be used, scan the QR code with a compatible phone camera or QR-scanning app.
What happens on Android
On a compatible Android phone with NFC enabled, a web-link NFC tag can open the link or prompt the person to open it (Android Developers: NFC basics). A contact page opens in the browser as normal. A .vcf link may download the file first; Google's help page shows how to add a saved VCF file through the Contacts app (Organize, then Import from file) (Google Contacts Help: Import contacts on Android). Some phone makers' Contacts apps open the file directly, others don't, which is one more reason a contact page with a download button is the safest destination.
If an NFC tap does not work, scan the QR code on the back with a compatible phone camera or QR-scanning app to open the same link.
Will a saved contact update when I change my details?
Treat an imported vCard as the details the recipient saved at that time. Updating your website or replacing a hosted .vcf makes the new information available to future visitors; do not assume it rewrites an entry already saved in someone else's address book. Google documents importing a vCard as a file-import action. That is different from subscribing someone to your updates.
Before buying, decide which problem you need to solve. A stable contact page suits people who need your current details whenever they revisit the link. If automatic updates to previously saved contacts are essential, ask a digital-card provider exactly which recipient devices and saving methods it supports before choosing its plan.
- Keep your public contact page and download-contact file consistent when your number changes.
- Include your stable website address in the contact file so a recipient has a route back to current information.
- Test a new download after each change. Existing clients may still need to edit or save your contact again; warn them through your normal agreed communication channel.
What to put in the contact (and what to leave out)
- Name the way people will search for it. "Maria Lopez, Lopez Realty" beats "Maria" when they scroll their contacts next month.
- One phone number you actually answer, and one email.
- Your website or booking page, so the saved contact leads somewhere useful.
- One clear photo or logo. It's what makes your contact recognizable later.
- Skip the extras people never use: a fax number, three social links, a long bio. A contact is a phone book entry, not a brochure.
If you need to change these details often (new hires, rotating staff numbers), use a contact page you can edit, or an app-based profile. A card that points to a page you control lets you update that page.
Where a save-my-contact card earns its keep
Open houses. A realtor can keep the card on the sign-in table: visitors tap, save the agent, and leave with the number in their phone instead of a flyer in the car. For listings, see NFC card for realtors that opens your listings page and NFC business cards for realtors.
Networking events. Hand the card over, let them tap, take it back. The recipient can choose to save your contact details.
Trade shows and markets. Put the card on the booth table with a small sign: "Tap to save our number." Pair it with a second card for your Instagram or website, because one card does one job.
Service visits. A plumber, cleaner or dog groomer can leave the customer with a saved contact for next time; see NFC business card vs a regular one for plumbers.

When an editable digital card is the better buy
If you need any of the following, compare digital-card providers and verify that the plan supports them:
- Your title, number or company changes often and you don't have a website page to point a card at.
- You want to know who tapped, collect the other person's details back, or sync leads to a CRM.
- You're outfitting a sales team and want one dashboard for every rep's card.
Pocket Factory fits when you want a card with your logo programmed with the supplied URL selected before production, with no account to log into and nothing to renew. If you'd rather the tap open your website, see the pre-programmed NFC card with your URL; the trade-offs are in digital business card vs NFC.
How to set up an NFC card that shares your contact
Step 1: Decide what the tap opens
Type your details into our order form, or point the card at a contact page or hosted .vcf on your own site.
Step 2: Check the details on your own phone
Open the page or file on an iPhone and an Android phone, over cellular data, and save yourself as a contact.
Step 3: Order the card with your logo
Choose Contact as the card purpose and review the preview. Cards have a QR code on the back by default. One card is $19 Matte or $21 Glossy, one-time.
Step 4: Tap-test when it arrives
Tap with an iPhone XS or newer and an NFC Android phone, then scan the QR code.
Step 5: Say one line when you hand it over
"Tap this to save my number." Then take the card back for the next person.

FAQ
What should I do after exchanging contact details at an event?
Note where you met and one topic you discussed. If you agree to follow up, use the person’s preferred channel and refer to that conversation.
Will editing my website update contacts people already saved?
Do not assume so. Editing your page or hosted vCard updates what future visitors can access, but an already imported contact may need to be edited or saved again. If automatic updates are essential, verify the specific digital-card service and recipient-device workflow before buying.
Can an NFC card save my contact to someone's phone?
Yes, with one honest caveat. The tap opens your contact details or contact page on their phone, and they choose to save you. The phone may ask them to open a link first.
What does Pocket Factory put on a contact card?
You choose Contact when you order and either type your details (name, company, phone, email, website, address, photo) or give us your existing contact page or hosted .vcf link. Contact files are prepared before production.
Does it work on iPhone?
iPhone XS and later support background NFC tag reading, subject to device conditions, and can show a notification to open the link. How a .vcf file opens from a web link varies by iOS version, so test it, and keep your details visible on the page.
Is a vCard better than a contact page?
A contact page you control can include a download-contact button, and you can edit the page while keeping its URL the same. Test the page and download on the phones your recipients use.
How much does an NFC contact card cost?
One Pocket Factory card with your logo costs $19 Matte or $21 Glossy, one-time, with no subscription. Two cards cost $29 Matte or $33 Glossy.
When do I choose the link?
Choose and test the supplied URL before production. If it points to a page you control, you can update the page while keeping that URL the same.
