"See you in six weeks!" isn't an appointment. If the next visit isn't booked at checkout, the client still needs a way to arrange it later.
For salons, barbershops, spas, and clinics, repeat appointments matter. Good service and a usable booking page solve different problems. A checkout invitation gives clients a way to reach that page while they're still with you.
Where the verbal ask leaves a gap
Asking a client to rebook puts the work on them: pull out the phone, find your booking site, pick a time, confirm. At checkout they may also be paying, tipping, chatting, or wrangling kids. A long search can be one more task to put off. A visible booking link removes the search, not the rest of the booking process.
The checkout tap
A tap card at the register (or offered with the mirror at the end of the appointment) offers to open your existing booking page on a compatible phone. No searching, no spelling your business name into Google, no "what was the website again." The tap opens the booking page; completing a booking depends on available appointments and the booking platform's steps.
Supply the URL of your existing booking page when ordering the card, rather than a homepage that makes clients hunt for the scheduler. Test that URL on a phone before ordering. The card itself carries your logo, so it also does quiet brand work every time it's on the counter.
Honest tradeoffs
A tap card doesn't fix a booking page that takes six screens to complete — if your checkout flow is the friction, start there. And staff have to actually use the card: the best placement in the world does nothing if the card lives in a drawer. Try an optional invitation: "Would you like to open the booking page before you go?" One sentence, at the mirror.
Two checkout variations
At a clinic front desk
Finish care and aftercare instructions first. Then, if the patient wants to arrange another visit, offer the card at the front desk: "Would you like to open our booking page, or would you prefer help from reception?" Use the practice's existing scheduling process for the next steps.
At the last landscaping visit
Ask whether the homeowner wants to discuss spring work, then offer the card to open your existing booking or contact page. If next season isn't bookable yet, agree a next step through your normal process. A requested window is not a confirmed appointment.
What to order
Choose a card for the place you'll offer it: the register, a station, or a crew member's kit. The Pocket Factory Booking NFC Card is USD 19 for one Matte card or USD 29 for two, a one-time card purchase. Each card carries your supplied logo and one supplied URL, uses an NTAG215 chip, and includes a QR code on the back and a protective sleeve. No app or subscription is required for the card; your booking service may have its own requirements or fees. Free U.S. shipping. Most standard orders are expected to be produced and shipped within approximately 3–5 business days; delays are possible. A card set up for reviews at the register can point to your Google review page — our review card comparison covers that setup.
FAQ
What if a client doesn't want to tap?
They can scan the QR code on the back using a compatible phone camera or QR-scanning app, or use your usual booking route. No one has to use the card to book.
What if I switch booking platforms?
Use a stable booking-page URL and test it before ordering. If you manage a page on your own website, that page can link to your current scheduler. After a platform change, check that the URL supplied for the card still reaches the right place.
Does the card send recall or seasonal reminders?
No. NFC itself doesn't send reminders. A card you keep at the desk or carry between jobs isn't a take-home reminder. For a return months away, use a separate reminder through an existing permission-based process if appropriate.
Can one card do reviews and bookings?
One card opens one link. For separate direct booking and review links, use two cards. Alternatively, link one card to a page you control with both options. Visitors then choose which link to open.
