Google's rules on review gating, explained neutrally
Some review products ask clients to rate you first and only send 4- or 5-star ratings to Google, while lower ratings go to a private form. That practice is often called review gating. Google's policies say reviews must reflect a genuine experience and prohibit reviews influenced by payments, discounts or other benefits (Google: incentivized or biased reviews). Google's own guidance is simply to ask customers to visit a Google link or scan a QR code (Google: tips to get more reviews). A filtering step isn't part of that guidance, and many agents skip it so every client gets the same direct link and there's no question about how the reviews were collected. Reviews should go to the Business Profile that represents the service the client received. If you have your own profile as an agent, point your card there; if reviews belong to the brokerage, use the office profile.
