Reviews and Rebooking at Pet Pickup: A Simple Groomer Checklist

Quick Answer: At pet pickup, finish the care discussion and safe handoff first. Offer help with the next appointment, then keep any Google review invitation separate and optional. A reusable NFC card can open your existing booking or review page, but it cannot assess a pet, approve an appointment or make someone leave a review.

This checklist is for grooming businesses that already have a public booking or request page, a Google Business Profile, or both. It is a suggested workflow, not a customer case study. You can use it with a tap card, a printed QR code or no new hardware.

1. Finish the pet handoff before the phone handoff

Cover the visit, aftercare instructions and any questions first. Follow your normal safe handoff procedure. If someone is holding a lead, carrying a pet or managing an excited arrival, do not add a phone task.

Once they are settled, offer a choice: “Would you like us to help arrange the next visit, or would you rather look at times later?” A staff-assisted booking or written reminder may be easier than asking the client to navigate a website.

2. Send returning clients and new-pet requests to the right place

A returning client may want another appointment for a pet you already know. A new pet, changed service or unfamiliar coat condition may need your assessment before a slot is approved. Use the booking or intake process your business actually operates; the card does not decide suitability or service duration.

For example, MoeGo’s portal instructions say clients enter through the business’s online booking URL. Existing clients log in with their registered phone number and an SMS code. A number not already in the client list goes through the new-client booking flow, including client and pet details and a booking request.

That is provider documentation, not a test of your account. Check your own settings. If a request needs approval, say “request your next visit,” not “your appointment is booked.” Only your scheduling system or staff can confirm the appointment.

3. Keep the review invitation separate

Use the same neutral invitation for genuine customers, regardless of satisfaction: “If you’d like to share your experience, this opens our Google review page. Reviewing is optional.” Let the client choose whether, when and what to write.

Do not connect a review to rebooking, service access, discounts or special treatment. Do not request a star rating, staff-name mention or completion before leaving, and do not set staff review quotas. These limits follow Google’s review-content policy. Google also notes that customers must sign in to a Google Account to post a review.

4. Choose one stable destination before ordering

A direct-link card opens one stored URL. For a locked card, do not plan on rewriting it between reviews and bookings. Choose the action that helps your pickup routine most; you do not automatically need two cards.

If you control a stable page on your own website, it can offer two clearly labeled choices: “Request the next groom” and “Leave an honest review.” That adds a selection step. Keep both options available without a satisfaction survey that steers unhappy clients away from Google. Changing that page’s content is different from changing the URL stored on the card.

Confirm the destination before production. For later changes, consult Pocket Factory’s link-change guidance; do not assume a replacement or reprogramming is free.

5. Pick the simplest handoff format

  • Staff help: arrange the next visit together when the client wants assistance.
  • Reusable NFC card: keep it at pickup or with the team for repeated taps on compatible phones. The destination still handles login, availability and confirmation.
  • QR code: offer a scan instead of a tap. A printed sign can work without a staff handoff.
  • Paper or an existing message: give a written appointment reminder or use your existing permission-based receipt/text workflow. A retained NFC card is not a reminder the client takes home.

Five checks before production

  1. Open the exact public URL on a phone, outside your staff login.
  2. Confirm the business, location and intended service are correct.
  3. Check returning-client access and new-client instructions separately.
  4. Make sign-in, request approval and confirmation steps clear.
  5. Choose a stable address and test the tap and any QR after delivery.

Count page opening, submitted requests, confirmed appointments and published reviews separately. None proves the card caused additional business.
