At checkout, explain your existing booking, confirmation, rescheduling and cancellation process and offer the relevant link. An NFC card can share that link, but it does not confirm attendance or prevent no-shows. The client chooses whether to open the link and complete any next step.
What reminders can and cannot do
If your booking provider offers reminders, check the available settings and fees. A reminder can share appointment information, but it cannot guarantee attendance. Our companion post on clients forgetting to rebook covers inviting clients to book another visit; this post focuses on sharing information about an existing appointment.
4 appointment workflow options, compared
| Method | What the client does | Where it breaks | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reminder texts | Receives a reminder if the booking provider offers it | Timing and delivery depend on the provider and settings; attendance is not guaranteed | Features and fees vary by provider |
| Booking page | Chooses whether to open your booking page and complete a booking | Opening the page is not a completed booking | Features and fees vary by provider |
| Rescheduling or cancellation link | Uses your existing disclosed process to request a change | Available steps depend on your provider and existing policy | Features and fees vary by provider |
| Tap-to-open booking link | Taps with a compatible phone or scans the QR code on the back, then chooses whether to open the supplied link | The card only shares a link; the client completes any next steps on the booking page | One Matte card: USD 19 one-time, with no card subscription; provider fees may apply |
The in-person commitment ritual
- Point the card at a stable link. Supply one general booking or confirmation URL from your existing process, rather than a client-specific page. Test the supplied link before ordering.
- Offer the link at checkout. If a client wants the link, say: "You can tap this with a compatible phone or scan the QR code to open our booking page." See the checkout example in how clients book for another way to offer the link.
- Say the policy once. Explain your existing disclosed confirmation, rescheduling and cancellation process. The client can review the linked page and decide what to do next.
- Cover every station. A five-card Matte pack costs USD 59; choose where to keep cards available for optional sharing.
Publish openings from one booking system
- Keep one system authoritative. Everyone who takes appointments should check and record bookings, cancellations and reschedules in the same booking system, including appointments handled in person. Do not treat a separate diary as another source of availability.
- Check before publishing an opening. After recording a cancellation, verify that the slot is available before displaying it on your booking page. Use your provider's existing availability settings rather than publishing an unverified opening.
- Update the same system when a slot is booked. Record the booking and check that the slot no longer appears available. Available booking and policy settings depend on your destination provider.
Honest alternatives
- Use your booking provider’s existing tools: share the booking or confirmation link directly if that suits your process. Available features and fees depend on the provider.
- Share your existing change instructions: let clients review your disclosed rescheduling and cancellation process. The card does not create or enforce a policy.
- Check availability: use your existing booking system to review capacity before offering an appointment.

FAQ
Won't deposits drive clients away?
Client reactions to a deposit policy cannot be guaranteed. The card only shares your existing booking link; any payment step and fees depend on your provider.
What link should the tap card open?
A general booking or confirmation page from your existing process. Supply one URL and test it before ordering; the client chooses whether to open it and complete any next steps.
Does this work for consultations too?
Yes, you can supply a consultation-booking URL. Opening it does not book or pay for a consultation automatically; the client completes any next steps through your provider.
Can the card prevent double-bookings or fill a cancellation?
No. Each card shares one URL you supply. The destination provider controls booking and policy steps; the card does not manage calendars, send reminders or collect deposits. Opening the link does not guarantee a completed booking.
