NFC card for tattoo artists that opens your Instagram: Pocket Factory makes one card with your logo, pre-programmed with your link, for a $19 one-time payment for one card, no subscription. A client taps it with their phone and your Instagram portfolio opens, so they follow you before they leave the chair, with no spelling your handle over the machine noise. Present the card after the piece is wrapped and photographed, let the client tap, then keep it for the next client. Give them the aftercare sheet to take home, and keep another reusable card on your booth table at conventions.

Why an Instagram card fits tattooing

Your portfolio lives on Instagram, and the best time to win a follow is the hour a client is happiest with your work: right after it's finished. They already have their phone out to photograph the fresh piece. A card that opens your profile turns that moment into a follow, and the follow is what brings them back for the next piece or sends a friend your way. The tap works on iPhone XS and newer without an app (Apple: background tag reading) and on Android phones with NFC turned on (Android Developers: NFC basics). A QR code on the back covers everyone else.

When to hand it over

  • After the wrap and the photo. Give the client their aftercare sheet, then offer your reusable card: "Tap this to open my profile." Let them choose whether to follow, and keep the card for the next client.
  • At the consult, if someone is still deciding. Your healed work on Instagram does the selling.
  • At conventions, on the booth table next to your flash, so people browsing can follow without stopping you mid-session.
  • At the front desk of the shop, for walk-ins looking through books.

Gloves stay on: the client's phone does the reading, so you just hold the card out. The card is PVC and wipes down with the rest of your station, but keep it off your tray and out of the clean zone.

What the tap should open, in order

  1. Your Instagram portfolio (instagram.com/yourhandle). This is the default for most artists.
  2. Your booking or consult form, if your books are open and you want inquiries in one place.
  3. The shop's Google review page, for a shop card at the front desk. Ask plainly and don't offer a discount for the review; Google doesn't allow incentives (Google's policy on incentivized reviews).

Deposits are taken by your booking tool, not the card. If you want the tap to lead to a deposit, point it at your booking page and let that tool collect the payment.

Artist card or shop card? An artist card opens your own Instagram and goes with you if you move shops or guest spot. A shop card opens the shop's account or review page and stays at the desk. Most shops end up with one per artist plus one for the front desk.

Make the follow worth it: what to post after the tap

A card gets the follow; your profile keeps it. A few habits make the tap pay off:

  • Post the fresh piece the same day, and ask the client first if they want to be tagged. They'll share it, and their friends land on your profile.
  • Post it again healed. Healed photos are what future clients look for, and they give the client a reason to come back to your page.
  • Pin your booking info. Keep one pinned post or highlight with how to book, your deposit policy and your current availability, so a new follower knows the next step.
  • Announce guest spots and conventions. If you travel, a story with dates and the city turns followers in that area into bookings.

Guest spots and conventions: because an artist card opens your own Instagram, it travels with you. Bring a few to every guest spot and leave one at the host shop's desk for the week. At a convention, a card in a small stand on the table lets people follow while you're tattooing, without you putting the machine down.

Pre-programmed card vs writing a blank NFC tag yourself

You can make this yourself. Buy a blank NTAG213 card or sticker, install a free tag-writing app such as NFC Tools (NFC Tools on the App Store, free with in-app purchases, checked October 19, 2026, 2:57–3:00 AM ET), write your Instagram link to the tag and test it. An Instagram profile link fits easily on an NTAG213. If you're comfortable with that, the DIY route is the cheapest, and it's a fine way to try the idea before you spend anything.

A pre-programmed card is for artists who'd rather not: the card has your logo printed on it so it looks like part of your brand, it arrives already working with a QR backup on the back, and it's locked so a client's phone can't overwrite it. That's $19 for one. For the general Instagram-card question (including the full DIY cost breakdown), see the cheapest NFC card that opens your Instagram.

Buying one for an artist you know? The gift for a small business owner: an NFC card with their logo covers getting their handle and logo right without spoiling the surprise.

How to set up an Instagram card for your tattoo clients

Step 1: Copy your profile link

Open your Instagram profile, copy the link and open it on a phone that isn't logged in to check it lands on the right account.

Step 2: Decide artist or shop card

Your own Instagram for an artist card; the shop account or review page for a front-desk card.

Step 3: Order with your logo

Upload your logo or flash-style mark, add "Tap to follow" and keep the QR backup. One card is $19 one-time.

Step 4: Tap-test it

Try an iPhone XS or newer and an Android phone, then scan the QR.

Step 5: Pair the tap with aftercare

Give the client their aftercare sheet, offer the card for a tap, and keep the card. If you want a take-home profile link, print a QR code or short URL on the aftercare sheet.
