Personalize your Google review NFC cards →

A Google review NFC card needs a visible, reachable place after the customer has experienced the service. Choose a routine pause such as checkout or pickup, without deciding who sees it based on whether they seem happy.

Pocket Factory: Your business logo on a card. Tap it, it opens your link. The link can be your website, Instagram, Google reviews, booking page, menu or pay link. It's an NFC card with an NTAG215 chip, pre-programmed with your URL, from $19, and you can order just one, with no app or subscription.

Placement rule: use the same post-service pause for all genuine customers, such as checkout, service handoff or a completed job walkthrough. Keep the invitation optional. Google prohibits selectively soliciting positive reviews and pressuring customers to post on the premises.

This guide is the placement ops page that sits next to staff ask scripts and the worth-it purchase decision. Hardware is cheap compared with putting it in the wrong spot.

Why placement beats chip brand

A clean NFC + QR card only helps when three things stack:

  1. The customer has experienced the service, regardless of whether their feedback is positive or negative.
  2. They are paused (paying, picking up, or finishing a walkthrough).
  3. A short, compliant ask happens while the card is within arm’s reach.

A pre-service entrance sign can reach people before they have an experience to review. Test a reachable post-service position before buying more cards; give customers room to decline or review later.

The post-service pause map

Use this national placement map. Match the tool to the pause—not the empty wall.

  • Retail / boutique: beside the card reader or bagging area, angled toward the customer during payment.
  • Salon / barbershop: front desk at checkout, or with the stylist at the reveal/finish—not the waiting-room magazine pile.
  • Restaurant / cafe: table edge or check presenter after the meal; pickup counter for takeout. Skip the host stand near the entrance.
  • Clinic / dental: checkout after the visit, when the patient is free to decline. Avoid interrupting treatment or presenting the request as part of care.
  • Field service / contractors: staff-carried Pocket Factory card at final walkthrough—portable wins over a counter they never visit.
  • Gym / studio: exit from the workout floor or towel return, where everyone pauses with phone out.

Rule of thumb: if the customer still has unfinished business (finding a table, waiting for service, browsing), wait. If they just got value and are standing still, present the card.

Card vs stand vs sticker

Form factor is a placement decision:

  • Handheld NFC/QR card: best when staff make the ask (most service and field businesses). Pocket Factory cards are built for this—carry one, hand it at the pause, get it back.
  • Counter stand: works at fixed checkouts when the ask is ambient and eye-level next to payment.
  • Paper QR sticker alone: fine for a two-week placement test; weak if staff never point to it or if it wears off wet counters.

Whichever form you choose, encode the direct Google review write URL—not your homepage or listing photos page.

Five placement mistakes that kill taps

  1. Front door / entrance: may reach customers before service rather than after it.
  2. Below counter or behind the register: invisible during the pause.
  3. Clutter pile: menus, tip jars, and candy bury the CTA.
  4. Metal stand / thick case blocking the chip: taps fail; staff stop trying.
  5. One shared card for multi-location write URLs: wrong store’s review page. Use one write URL per location.

How to test placement in one week

  1. Pick one pause point and one backup (e.g. checkout + bagging).
  2. Confirm the write URL opens the star picker on iPhone and Android (our Google review card setup guide covers the tap test).
  3. Coach a 10-second neutral ask (no star coaching, no “mention my name,” no happy-only gating).
  4. Count honest attempts for 7 days—not just published reviews.
  5. If attempts happen but taps fail, fix chip/QR/stand metal. If attempts don’t happen, move the card or retrain the pause.

Restaurants with lots of pickup orders: the handoff shelf is its own placement. See the takeout and delivery bag card guide for what goes at pickup vs in the bag.

FAQ

Where should I put a Google review NFC card?

At a reachable post-service pause, such as checkout, pickup or a completed job walkthrough. Offer the same optional invitation regardless of satisfaction, and let customers review later or decline.

Should restaurants put review cards on every table?

Table-edge or check-presenter placement often beats a host-stand card. Pair it with a short ask at payment; don’t rely on a silent tent alone.

Do field techs need a counter stand?

Usually no. A staff-carried hybrid NFC + QR card at walkthrough beats a stand the customer never sees.

Does placement matter more than NFC vs QR?

Yes for most SMBs. Wrong spot with a perfect chip still loses. Cards come with the Tap + QR back by default, so there are two ways to open the review page on compatible phones.
